Moving Tips

Planning to move soon? Aside from all of the boxes, taping, organising, disassembling and reassembling involved, there are other important things to consider. To help you plan, we rounded up the best moving tips and tricks that will help make your move seamless!

Hiring Movers

  • Do some research or ask for recommendations from friends who’ve recently moved, and make sure you check reviews.
  • Make a list of all your big items and how many rooms full of stuff you have to move. Share that list and relevant photos with the movers so they can provide you an estimate/quote. Ideally, you want quotes from 3+ licensed moving companies.

1 Month Before Moving Date

  • Fill out a change-of-address form with Canada Post.
  • Change your address with Revenue Canada and Canada Pension Plan.
  • Change your address with ICBC and your driver’s license/BC Services Card.
  • Change your address with your employer, healthcare providers (including your veterinarian), banks/credit unions, credit card companies, insurance companies, schools, daycares, subscription services etc.
  • Move over your utilities, including phone, internet, BC Hydro and FortisBC, and schedule any necessary in-home set up appointments.
  • Transfer or set up your home insurance.
  • Confirm key details with JC Liquidators, including arrival times, parking access, and elevator access.
  • Book the elevator if you’re moving to or from a building.
  • Confirm where the pets will go (if you have any) as moving day can be stressful for them as well.
  • Schedule a cleaning company.
  • Place important documents (passports, home purchase/sale papers) in a safe box and label “Do not move”, so you can transport them yourself during the move.
  • Prepare an “open first” box with essentials you’ll need in your new home, like towels, bedding, basic kitchen and bathroom supplies, toys for the kids, paper towels, tools, TV remotes, and cables. Basically, anything you will need right away at your new home.

We recently used JC Liquidators for our move from the Fraser Valley to Edmonton. Jason and his crew were polite, hardworking, efficient and helpful. They were upfront about some damage to a picture frame, and they have paid to have that repaired. All issues were resolved to our complete satisfaction. I would not hesitate to recommend JC Liquidators for your next move.

5* Plus!!!! Jason is the absolute go to guy if you need to move. Moved from Mission to Fraser Lake (10 hrs away). Moving day couldn’t have gone better! Jason and the lads were professional, kind and just hard working, down to earth guys. With a good sense of humor too. Their timing was impeccable! They even took the extra time to help arrange my furniture, as I have some mobility issues.

Sorry took so long to write this. Just finally got unpacked and settled.

You guys are awesome!!!

Jason and his team are top notch!

Recently moved from Lower mainland to Kamloops and they were super fast, on time and friendly.

Jason was very professional and quick to communicate from the quote to move completion. I would recommend his company for any move.

Thanks guys!

Had JC and his crew empty out an apartment for me. Showed up on time, three guys – not just two like many companies, well equipped, ready to roll and load. They had to deal with slow elevators, lots of tenants using the same elevator, and not the greatest of egress routes. Not sure where he finds these guys but they were not at all flustered by the elevator hassle, the hot weather, the heavy awkward stuff, etc. Just settled down and got to work. Nice and quick, decent price, good service. They are pretty busy but if you give them some notice, they will make it work.
